สระน้ำ แล้วนำขวานทองขึ้นมา “ไม่ใช่ขวานของข้าหรอก” ชายตัดฟืนกล่าว เทพารักษ์จึงงมขวานขึ้นมา
อีกเล่มหนึ่ง “ขวานเงินนี่ไม่ใช่ของข้า” ชายตัดฟืนกล่าวอีกครั้ง “เจ้าคนซื่อสัตย์” เทพารักษ์พูด “คนดี
อย่างเจ้า จงเอาขวานทองกับขวานเงินเจ้าเป็นรางวัลก็แล้วกัน” แล้วเทพารักษ์ก็หายตัวไปคนตัดฟืน นำ
ขวานทองและขวานเงินเดินกลับบ้าน และเล่าให้เพื่อนบ้านฟัง เพื่อนบ้านคนหนึ่ง อยากได้บ้าง จึงเข้าไป
ในป่า ทำทีหาฟืน แล้วก็โยนขวานของตนทิ้งลงในน้ำ “ฮือ…ฮือ…ฮือ… ” เทพารักษ์ก็มางมขวานให้อีก
“เอ้า ขวานทองเล่มนี้ของเจ้าใช่ไหม ? ” “ใช่ ใช่แล้วท่าน ของข้าเอง” ชายโลภมากพูดอย่างทันที “เจ้า
คนปดมดเท็จ ” เทพารักษ์กล่าวแล้วหายตัวไป ปล่อยให้ชายโลภมากอยู่เพียงลำพัง โดยไม่ได้รับขวาน
